Fishmarket, Istanbul

Fishmarket in Besiktas, Istanbul.

A concrete roof with a 'fishbar' as interior elements. The lighting is already adapted to the users' needs, cut off or without lamps. Conceptually strong.

Menara Mesiniaga

KL collects modern architecture. Maybe not so known, but it's a high rise city, with lots of new and good high rises.

A bit outside the city centre I visited the office for IBM: Menara (= tower) Mesiniaga by architect Ken Yeang. An experiment of eco-medium-high-rise.

Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur, in contrast to Delhi: a clean place.

High rises around the city park. Yet something is wrong: people live inside, there is no life in the streets.

New Delhi

Oi, 5 days New Delhi, which image lasts ?

This: crowds, dust, chaos. Animal, man and machine fight for the same place. A moment later nothing is the same. Nothing stands still. It seems to work.

SOM, Rotterdam

Impressive buildings, still. There they are, a bit alone and simple; a closer look makes us notice the stone facade and the smooth details of, for example, the railings. Also the interior with stone walls and copper lift doors is marvellous.

Open day of the terrain of the Foodcenter in Amsterdam (Jan van Galenstraat).

Now the terrain is used for transport of food to the city for the restaurants and shops in Amsterdam. In the future the area could get available for redevelopment. This market hall can easily be used for a day market.

The EU-parliament, taken from the best side, over the water. A colossal building, at the edges of Straatsburg.

The building is only used 4 days per month, which costs 2 billion Euros. The Benelux wants all meetings to take place Brussels. Who will use these buildings then ?
